Work has begun on the new Mildura
Police Station.
Workers were demolishing the
old Mildura Magistrates and Supreme Court building in Deakin
Avenue, to make way for the new multi-million dollar complex.
The Victorian Government has
entered into a contract with Candetti Constructions to build the
new facility, next to the new courthouse.
A spokesperson for the
Victorian Department of Justice said approval to construct the
$17.5 million complex had been granted.
He said the approval was
delayed because the initial tender failed to attract sufficient
interest from the construction industry.
"The new station will be better
suited to modern and smart policing," the spokesperson said.
"Construction on the Deakin Avenue site is expected to be
completed in early 2007, when the current police station will be
demolished and replaced with a custodial facility and car park." |
